Does the Ohio spousal support calculator use the new 2019 tax changes?
Does the Ohio spousal support calculator on this site use the new 2019 tax changes? It has me enter gross amounts but I thought net amounts are used with new law. Thanks!

Hello @sbreal
Unfortunately, the State of Ohio doesn't have a mathematical formula to make alimony calculations. However, the Ohio Alimony Calculator on this site uses the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) alimony formula to provide an estimate of a potential alimony award in the State of Ohio. The AAML alimony formula uses the spouses' gross incomes to calculate alimony amounts and does not consider the tax consequences of the alimony award.
In the State of Ohio, courts must consider the 14 factors found in section 3105.18(C)(1) of the Ohio Revised Code when making alimony determinations. Ohio courts must consider all 14 factors and may not base alimony determinations upon any one of the factors taken in isolation. One of the factors to be considered is "the tax consequences, for each party, of an award of spousal support." As such, an Ohio court will consider the new alimony tax changes when making an alimony award.
